Adda, land of faith
The Adda lands tell of a widespread and rooted spirituality in the resident populations.
The most symbolic place is certainly Sotto il Monte Giovanni XXIII, city of origin of the Good Pope Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, where you can visit his birth and childhood places.
Equally important are the sanctuaries tarising near the river: the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Bosco in Imbersago (1617), the Sanctuary of Divine Motherhood in Concesa of Trezzo (1641), the Sanctuary of the Lavello in Foppenico of Calolziocorte (1490), the Rocchetta Sanctuary in Airuno (1558), the Sabbioncello Sanctuary in Merate dedicated to Santa Maria Nascente (1568), the Sanctuary of Carmel in Montevecchia (1400), the Sanctuary of Madonna of Czestochowa in Valgreghentino, the Sanctuary of S. Maria of Rocchetta in Paderno d’Adda. Finally the world-famous Shrine of Nostra Signora della Fontana (1620) in Caravaggio, birthplace of Michelangelo Merisi, known as Caravaggio.
